Sexiest Man Alive
The “Voice” judge, Adam Levine, and Maroon 5 lead singer will be revealed as the magazine’s choice next week. Levine, who recently got engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo, has been in the “Sexiest Man Alive” issue before but never as the top choice. In addition to his music career, Levine has branched out into acting, with roles in American Horror Story and Can a Song Save Your Life? He’s also launched fashion and fragrance lines. Last May, he inked a one-year first-look development deal with NBC, and the network subsequently picked up a script for a semi-autobiographical comedy based on his friendship with writer-producer Gene Hong (Community), whom he roomed with before either found success.
Bateria Infested Bieber
Justin Bieber’s South American tour took another unexpected turn on Sunday night when he had to leave the stage halfway through a performance in Argentina. The singer, who had been complaining of stomach pain caused by food poisoning, told the crowd at Buenos Aires’ River Plate Stadium he couldn’t go on. “I’m not feeling too good, I think I’m out of energy,” he said before blowing a kiss and walking offstage, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It was the second time Bieber didn’t finish a show on the tour, coming less than a week after he pulled up stakes in Brazil after being hit by a bottle on stage. Before the River Plate gig, Bieber posted a selfie in which he was getting intravenous fluids in preparation for the show.
The Argentina incident is the latest in a string of mishaps on Bieber’s South American tour, which has included the posting of a bizarre picture of the singer sleeping in a Brazilian hotel taken by a model who later claimed she had been invited to the singer’s suite to party. Police in Brazil also sought to question Justin about defacing the outside wall of a hotel with graffiti, a crime that could result in jail time if they decide to pursue the issue. Bieber’s next show is Tuesday night in Santiago, Chile, and at press time, it appeared he was on track to make that date.
Ed Sheeran takes over a New York nightclub on Halloween
Apparently Ed Sheeran dressed an the gingerbread man from Shrek walked unto stage in a nightclub in New York on Halloween and started preforming. Preforming in the costume only lasted about three songs until it became to hot for him. He took off the costume and tossed it into the crowd and continued to preform. He sang many of his old songs he had recorded before he became famous. His most recognized of these as an old classic, “She.” Ed was most happy about being able to preform and simultaneously drink. Apparently this was an 21+ event and ed shouted, “Yeah, sing that shit out!” I can’t imagine him going any of this but he is a grown adult so it shouldn’t be to much of a surprise. He also promised all of the fans new music and even sang a couple of verses. He says new music is to come but nothing is recorded yet. It was said that he also let fans sing with him as we moved throughout the crowd. I think it is so cool that he interacts with his fans on such a down to earth level.
Chris Brown Hasn’t Thrown In The Towel Yet..
Singer Chris Brown was arrested early Sunday in Washington and charged with felony assault, the Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed to CBS News. The R&B star is still on probation from his 2009 beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna. If Sunday’s arrest is determined to be a violation of his probation, the star could land in prison for up to four years. Sources said the Brown and the victim did not know each other and that Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, was also arrested in the incident, which took place around 4:25 a.m. Chris Brown allegedly said, “I’m not into gay sh–, I’m into boxing,” and then punched the man. The name of the alleged victim was not released but Metcalf said the man had been released from the hospital as of Sunday afternoon. He also got involved in highly publicized altercations with fellow singers Drake and Frank Ocean, but no criminal charges were filed in those incidents. Personally, I think he has gone off the deep end. As if assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna wasn’t enough. Rumor has it that he has also been in altercations with Drake and Frank Ocean just with in this past year.
“Rap God” Taking the Nation by Storm
“Why be a king when you can be a God?” That’s the question Eminem posed yesterday on “Rap God,” the 6-minute lyrical pipe-bomb of a track from his upcoming album, the Marshall Mather LP2. Immediately, some wondered if Em was taking aim at his rival Kendrick Lamar, who famously made his own aggressive claim of rap game dominance earlier this year on his “Control” verse, but in many ways what Eminem was doing on this track was more complicated than that.
Like Kendrick, Eminem named names, but he wasn’t going after his contemporaries. Instead of doing what Kendrick did: threatening to (lyrically) murder all his rap rivals. He was staging a rap mythology session, remaking his own version of Clash Of The Titans and releasing the krakken. Even though reactions on social media were somewhat mixed there’s no denying it was an event.
So, what about the names he did name? Was he paying tribute or throwing shots? To decipher Eminem’s range of references on the undeniably dense and complicated track, the list of the rap gods Eminem was name-checking on his astounding track and I tried to figure out what Eminem was trying to say with each reference and allusion.
I can honestly say that I will be counting down the minutes till his new album comes out on the fifth.
Gaga releases second single from new album ARTPOP
Lady Gaga took to Twitter Thursday evening (Oct. 10), promising her fans that once they were able to correctly guess her next single by getting it trending on Twitter, she would reveal the successor to “Applause.” The track titled Venus, will be released October 27th. Applause, her first single released of the album, was an instant success; this only means that Venus will only follow in these footsteps.
The song title is likely a reference to “The Birth of Venus,” a famous painting from the Italian artist Botticelli. The piece of art is featured, albeit in pieces, behind Gaga on the “ARTPOP” album cover.
The new single announcement follows the reveal of “ARTPOP”‘s tracklist, as well as a lyric video for the song “Aura.” On her Twitter, Gaga also announced the first 500,000 physical copies of the record will feature hot pink and silver foil, apparently representing the original album art design by artist Jeff Koons.
I’ve always been a fan of Gaga, so I am very interested to see what her new album entails!
What You Didn’t Know About Lorde
Most people know her by her stage name, Lorde, but her actual name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor. The New Zealand songwriter is remarkably only 16 years old! She is the youngest and first New Zealand solo artist to have a number one song in the United States. Her first track was released on November 22, 2012, and her first single, “Royals”, débuted at number 1 on the New Zealand’s Top 40 and also reached number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. Her début album, Pure Heroine, was released on September 27, 2013. If you listen to Royals as much as I do, you should really look into some of this other phenomenal work she does. I wasn’t really aware that she had more hits out there until I started research her and her background. Some of her other popular hits include, “Tennis Courts,” “Ribs,” “White Teeth Teens,” and finally, “Team.” It is said that she even turned down an opportunity to open for Katy Perry.
She has become one of my new and upcoming favorite artists. Check out these songs and let me know what you guys think!
Mike Stud
The legend of Mike Stud dates back to his days growing up as one of Rhode Island’s greatest baseball players of all time. As a highly touted high school senior, he was named Rhode Island’s 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year, received Louisville Slugger Player of the Year honors, and won a full athletic scholarship to Duke University. Stud was selected as an All-American and now holds the lowest ERA in Duke baseball history after only his freshman season. After the promising start to Stud’s collegiate baseball career, however, Tommy John surgery put him on the sidelines. Suddenly, making music became an outlet for him to pass the time. After only a few public releases of self-composed songs, he began to get notable recognition for his rhyming ability and was encouraged to continue.
After graduating Duke, Stud transferred to Georgetown to continue his studies as a graduate student and to continue his attempt at regaining full strength on the mound. Needless to say, he also continued working on music in his down time. Fast forward 14 months, and Stud is now one of the hottest upcoming musicians on the web. His rookie mixtape A Toast to Tommy, released last October, debuted at No. 3 and No. 2 on the worldwide and US iTunes Hip-Hop Albums charts. He has since headlined a sold-out 20-city national tour and has acquired nearly 10 million YouTube views. His versatility and fun, upbeat style has transformed Stud into a truly viral artist. With each new release, he is constantly showing the world that he’s about to take it over.
I am excited to say this upcoming Sunday I will be seeing him tour in Columbus, so I hope to post some pictures of my experience next week! Check him out and let me know what you guys think!
Katy Perry Copy Cat?
Katy Perry is being accused of ripping off Sara Bareilles for her new single “Roar.” For anyone who has heard the song “Brave” by Sara, “Roar” definitely seems like Katy stole some ideas off it. Neither artist is saying much about this event, however fans are going insane. She released the track Monday in advance of the Oct. 22 release of her new album Prism and within hours people were online suggesting it sounds a lot like Bareilles’ song “Brave.” “Roar” has already hit No. 1 on the iTunes chart. “Brave,” which fizzled upon its release, shot up the iTunes chart when the plagiarism accusations began. Sara Bareilles says that she is okay with Katy Perry’s new song “Roar” giving her success, despite the song showing great similarities to her own song, “Brave.” I’m not sure what the truth is but I will add both videos to this blog so you can decide for yourself.
